Adventure 67 ~ My First Visit To A Salvage Yard

salvage yardWhilst my mind is still engaged with cosmic matters, I hurtled back to Earth for a brief moment today so I could visit a salvage yard for the very first time.

I have to say, the yard had all the qualities of a black hole : it seemed to have sucked in all sorts of  objects and I’m pretty certain that there are many salvage hunters who have entered the yard and never been seen since 🙂 .

You can watch the peat cutting tool (known as a peat spade or a turf spade) in action below. By the way, this video was filmed in my local area in Northern Ireland!

Adventure 66 ~ The Theories Of Multiverse

Today I’m exploring “the multiverse” ~ a theory which proposes that our universe is not the only universe! Watch me as I try to get my head around three theoretical models : Bubble Universe theory ; Membrane theory and Many Worlds theory!

Adventure 65 ~ What is exotic matter?

Today I’m exploring the idea of exotic matter and how it makes wormholes traversable 🙂 . By the way, my head seems to be acclimatising and this is, oddly enough, all beginning to make sense to me!

Adventure 64 ~ What is space-time?

Today I explore the idea of space-time (also known as the space-time continuum and the fabric of space-time). I found a really helpful video which helped the penny to drop (but my head still hurts!)

Adventure 63 ~ Einstein’s Theory Of General Relativity

Four lines of enquiry opened up yesterday as a result of grappling with the idea of wormholes. One of those lines was : what is the theory of general relativity? Today I attempt to understand, and describe, this theory which Einstein published in 1915. (I’d just like to say that my head is beginning to hurt!) 🙂

Adventure 62 ~ Wormholes 101

Today I’m exploring the line of enquiry that opened up for me yesterday : wormholes . Watch me as I use a part of my vacuum cleaner to explain how this hypothetical feature of space- time might work and as I begin to see a learning pattern emerge!

Adventure 61 ~ The Anatomy Of A Black Hole

spaceAlright. Hands up. It’s true : I’ve moved from “not interested in space at at all” to “totally fascinated by the entire cosmos and beyond” within 24 hours (and I’m certainly starting to see how my learning strategy really works for me!) Yesterday’s adventure opened up 3 interesting lines of enquiry for me :

What is a black hole?

What is the event horizon?

What is the singularity?

Watch as I explore the anatomy of a black hole and open up another new line of enquiry 🙂 !

Adventure 60 ~ What Would Happen If I Fell Into A Black Hole?

Today’s adventure sees me starting a new adventure series. The aim of this series is to discover more about the way I learn. I selected a magazine that seemed to hold very little appeal and wondered if I could get curious about any of its contents. Would a natural curiosity emerge? Would a line of enquiry reveal itself  like a trail of breadcrumbs for me to follow?

Watch what happens when I open the pages of “All About Space” 🙂 .

Adventure 59 ~ Learning To Speak Mandarin And A Guest Adventurer!

It’s the last day of  February which means that, in addition to today’s adventure, it’s time for a review of the month and my next guest adventurer!

For today’s adventure I try my hand at learning Mandarin. I watched this brilliant video and then gave myself 30 seconds to learn my chosen phrases. Can you guess what I’m saying? (I’ve put a translation below the video to help you out 🙂 )

Translation : Hello! How are you? I’m fine. Bye!

Here’s me reviewing this month of adventuring :

And here’s my fabulous guest adventurer for February, Kate Trafford. Watch what happened when she took herself along to a dance workshop …..

Adventure 58 ~ вы говорите по-русски?

Today’s adventure involves me learning some basic Russian phrases! Can you work out what I’m saying? (I’ve provided a translation under the video just in case it’s not obvious 🙂 )

How’s things? My name is Jane. I’m having fun 🙂 . Bye!
