Adventure 212 ~ The Big Distraction Project [Day 4]

Today, I realise that by removing the distraction of social media (in particular), I am beginning to appreciate human contact MUCH more!

I am just going outside and may be some time.

Adventure 211 ~ The Big Distraction Project [Day 3]

Whilst I may have felt disconnected from the world yesterday, today I’m feeling re-connected (but not to the same world!)

If you want to find out more about The Big Distraction Project , you might want to check out this post .

Adventure 208 ~ The Big Distraction Project

The questions that came up for me yesterday (as a result of reading Steven Pressfield’s “Turning Pro”) have given me an idea for a 7-day adventure! For 7 days, I’ve decided to remove as many distractions in my life as I can. For 7 days I will not be active on social media. For 7 days I will not drink wine. For 7 days I will avoid “hiding” in work and start taking healthy, nourishing breaks.

If I remove these distractions, I wonder what I will discover? As usual. I’ll be keeping a daily video diary (I reckon this adventure could get really interesting. In fact, I reckon this adventure might even be a significant turning point for me!)

Adventure 205 ~ Write A Synopsis For A Literary Agent/Publisher

Well, what can I tell you? Writing a one-page synopsis of a story I know inside-out is not something that I’ve found easy at all. Turns out though that the “Synopsis Struggle” is very common amongst the writing population – and just knowing that makes me feel better (and like a proper writer …. a REALLY proper writer because it was a REALLY big struggle.)

It took me four hours and (as you will see in today’s video) I am now “all worded out”. There’s not a single letter, let alone word, left on my tongue. I need a lie down 😛 . (And. Yeah. It’s just the first draft. *SIGH* )

I am just going outside and I may be some time.

Adventure 202 ~ Go Looking For A New Story

As I took an editing break over the weekend, I’ve spent most of today catching up. I’ve been transferring the editorial notes from my paper manuscript to the soft-copy of  The Faerie Thorn on my computer and wrangling with the finer points of English grammar.

My head got so jammed with grammar puzzles that I had to venture into the “teenager’s lair” to find a book to help me! “Spelling, Punctuation And Grammar” is aimed at 14-16 year-olds and perfect for the word-addled head of a fantasy writer 😛 . You can find the book  here.

Five hours of editing left me hungry for fresh fodder and so for today’s adventure, I answered the call of a local out-of-the-way place in the hope of finding inspiration for my next story.

Here’s how I got on (oh and I hope you enjoy the safari feel of this short film – it was quite a challenging off-road trip!)

Adventure 201 ~ Sketch The Faerie Thorn King

The Faerie Thorn KingWell, let me just start by saying that art is not necessarily one of my top talents! In spite of this, I did have an impulse today to attempt to bring the Faerie Thorn King himself to life on paper. I think my short story would benefit from an illustration or two but I’m not sure that I’m the artist that I should employ for that task 😛

I think I have managed to capture the sense of him but I’ve not managed to portray his raw masculinity at all! (And as for the glamrock outfit – I just don’t know where that came from 😛 )

In today’s video, I talk you through his full outfit.

Adventure 200 ~ Celebrate In Style

home-made chimineaIt was my 200th day of adventuring today, so I decided to make my celebration the adventure of the day! I bet that most of you will not have seen an outdoor fire like this before! (It was brilliant, by the way and a fabulous recycling adventure 🙂 ).

And for those of you who’d be interested in a fail-safe Irish coffee recipe, you’ll find that in today’s video too.

Adventure 198 ~ Edit Like A Pro

For today’s adventure, I attempt to edit like a pro. I read Steven Pressfield’s “The War Of Art” last weekend and it’s really helping me to keep the momentum going :).

In today’s video, I also share an unexpected side-effect of writing a story that comes out of the “local ground”.

Adventure 197 ~ Write A Faerie Story [7]

Well, I made it! Today I write and narrate the final part of my original faerie story, The Faerie Thorn. In this episode, you get to find out what happened to Man Donaghy’s good Big People looks, you learn what a borrow-body is, and some of you may cry at a certain point (I did!)

Everything I have shared with you is completely unedited and so now the adventure that lies ahead is an editing one!

Adventure 196 ~ Write A Faerie Story [6]

Well, it turns out that the Faerie Thorn folk have a little more story up their sleeves than I thought and so today is not the last part of the story!

Here’s me narrating what I’ve just written (it’s hot off the press and unedited, as usual). I wonder if you expected the trolls to take what they did from Man Donaghy? I wonder if you’ve worked out what the trolls are going to do with the thing they have taken from him? I wonder if you’re curious to know how successful the trolls were in getting rid of  New Wife Donaghy?……
